Traders association pleads for regular train services between Chennai and Tiruvarur

The Tiruvarur Vijayapuram Varthagar Sangam has appealed to the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, Southern Railway, to take steps to convert some train services passing through Tiruvarur into regular services.

The association, in a letter, has said that Pamani Express, Sengottah Express, Velankanni-Mysore Express and Karaikal-Madurai trains should be converted into daily services and additional air-conditioned coaches added to the Mannargudi-Chennai Egmore Express.

It demanded introduction of a day train between Tiruvarur and Chennai and operation of all passenger trains from Platform No. 1 in Tiruvarur Junction.

Requesting the Southern Railway to recreate the ‘diamond crossing’ rail track that existed in the past on the Western side of the railway junction, it called upon the DRM to take steps for the restoration of the Tiruvarur Railway Junction Consultative Committee member status and the Tiruchi Divisional Railway Consultative Committee membership status to the association.

Introduction of battery operated vehicles, upgrade of the existing track from Thanjavur to Karaikal as an electrified double track, introduction of a new services connecting Tiruchi with Velankanni and Karaikal with Tiruchendur through Tiruvarur were some of the other demands put forth by the association in the letter.
