SHIVAMOGGA: A college student allegedly committed suicide after her mother advised her not to overuse her cellphone. Dhanushree, from Haranahalli near Ayanur, located on the outskirts of Shivamogga city, died, police stated.
The 20-year-old was in her first year of a BA degree course. On Monday, Dhanushree was using her mobile phone while sitting on the veranda after returning from college.
When her mother advised her to limit her phone usage, an angry Dhanushree attempted suicide. Her mother fainted upon discovering her, while her father and brothers were away.
Neighbours who witnessed the situation immediately responded and transported her to District McGann Hospital. Despite three days of intensive treatment, she passed away on Thursday, according to police sources.
Following the post-mortem examination, Dhanushree’s remains were transported to her village, situated approximately 30 kilometres from Shivamogga city, for the final rites, Shivamogga SP Mithun informed.
This event follows another recent case where a minor died by suicide after being reprimanded over a TV remote in Shivamogga city.
