Visakhapatnam: A pregnant tribal woman delivered her baby on the roadside at Chidivalasa tribal hamlet under Peddakota panchayat of Ananthagiri mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Monday morning.
The incident happened after the ambulance that was supposed to pick her up, failed to reach the hilly tribal hamlet due to poor road connectivity to the hamlet.
Killo Vasantha (28), a native of Chidivalasa developed labour pains in the wee hours on Monday. The family members of the woman alerted the 108-ambulance service to shift Vasantha to a nearby hospital.
There is no proper road connectivity to the village hence the ambulance could not reach the village. The staff of the ambulance was waiting near the village to pick her up.
When the locals were making efforts to shift the woman to get the Ambulance service to reach the hospital, Vasantha’s labour pains became severe and she gave birth to a baby girl on the roadside. Later the mother and infant were shifted to a primary health centre in an ambulance.
The village has 120 population, but it lacks road connectivity. The officials have claimed that they are spending a good amount for the road connectivity to the hill top villages under mission connect and NREGS but in reality the road was incomplete and some civil contractors have benefited with the project, pointed out CPM leader K Govinda Rao. We will launch a protest for road connectivity to our hilly areas said Killo Nageswara Rao.
