VISHAKHAPATNAM: A significant number of tribal people entered the premises of the Zilla Parishad office and staged a protest demanding proper roads for several villages situated in the tribal areas. They held up placards highlighting the necessity of having roads for ambulances to reach these villages in case of emergency situations.
During a general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad held on Wednesday, tribals raised their voices for the need of roads in the agency area. They claimed that Dollies (a type of cart) are the only mode of transport available to them during emergency situations. People from 12 tribal villages in Peddkota, Pinnakota, and Kivarla panchayats expressed their concerns about the lack of roads. They informed that the tribals of Gondu section, who live in the hilltop border villages of Rolugunta and Koyyuru mandals, are suffering without basic amenities and even power supply.
During the ZP general body meeting, even the representatives of tribal communities expressed their concerns about the government’s failure to address issues plaguing their communities. They also pointed out that the resolutions taken in previous meetings were not implemented.
During a meeting, the collectors of three districts – Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Anakapalli – did not attend. As a result, there was no quorum of MPPs and ZPTCs. The ZP Chairperson, G Subhadra, was forced to wait for the members and officials for nearly two hours.
