Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 17 Lok Sabha on the last day of its Budget Session and said, “These five years were about “reform, perform and transform” in the country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke in the Lok Sabha on the last day of the Budget Session, highlighting “reforms and transforms” that took place in the country in the last five years.

The prime minister, in his speech, presented a comprehensive list of decisions, policies, and laws introduced by his government and noted that the “productivity in the 17th Lok Sabha was almost 97%”.

The prime minister highlighted several decisions “for which many generations waited for long” including the abrogation of Article 370 which granted a special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Budget session of Parliament was extended by a day till Saturday, (February 10), to dispose of “important government business”. The session, which began on January 31, was otherwise slated to end on February 9.

It was your (Lok Sabha Speaker) leadership that decided this, too matters forward, held meetings with the government and as a result, the country received this new Parliament building,” he said.
  • PM Modi also expressed pride over India’s successful presidency of the G20 event and said, “India received the opportunity of G20 presidency. India received a great honour. Every state of the country displayed India’s capability and their own identity before the world. Its impact continues on the mind of the world even to this day.”
  • The prime minister pointed out developments and reforms in Jammu and Kashmir under the BJP government and said, “People of Jammu & Kashmir were devoid of social justice. Today, we are satisfied that we have brought social justice to the people of Jammu & Kashmir in line with our commitment to social justice. Terrorism had become like a thorn, shooting bullets into the chest of the country…We formed strict laws against terrorism. I am of the firm belief that people who suffer through issues like this will receive strength like this.”
  • “The productivity in the 17th Lok Sabha was almost 97%. We hope to have more productivity in the coming 18th Lok Sabha,” he added.
  • PM Modi further highlighted that this 17th Lok Sabha saw the abrogation of Article 370 and the removal of ‘triple talaq’.
  • “During this Lok Sabha’s term, several decisions for which many generations waited for long were taken. Article 370 was also abrogated during this Lok Sabha’s term… I feel that those who drafted the Constitution would bless us for this,” he said.
