Truck mows down a car on Bhakrapet ghat road, three killed and two injured

TIRUPATI: Three persons were crushed to death and two others sustained injuries after a speeding truck crashed on a car on the Bhakrapet ghat road near Tirupati on Thursday.
A heavy duty truck laden with tomato sticks was heading to Chennai from Kalakada when the gory road mishap occured on the Bhakrapet ghat road.
According to Chandragiri police, the driver of the heavy-duty vehicle lost control, while negotiating a hairpin bend on the ghat road and subsequently the truck crashed on a car, resulting in the deaths of three inmates in the car.
The deceased were identified as Ramesh Murthy (34), Muni Venkat Reddy (55) and Manjunatha (38), all residents of Chikballapur in Karnataka.
Two others, who sustained grievous injuries and were caught helplessly beneath the truck, cried for rescue.
Tirupati SP L Subba Rayudu along with Chandragiri and Bhakrapet police rushed to the spot and initiated measures to rescue the injured.
Speaking to reporters later, Tirupati SP observed that the Bhakrapet ghat road stretch is prone to frequent road mishaps and that the district police wing in coordination with the national highway authorities to initiate long-term measures to prevent the recurrence of mishaps along this route.
