NYT said Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Tulsi Gabbard’s involvement in Trump’s debate preparation. Karoline said Trump does not need any preparation per se but will meet respected policy advisers and effective communicators like Tulsi Gabbard.
Trump is practicing more for debate than in 2016, 2020
Though Trump likes to give an impression that he doesn’t prepare for debates, this time he’s preparing more than he did in 2016 and 2020. “Trump likes to say he doesn’t need to prepare for debates, and his team is under instructions to use the term “policy time” to describe their sessions. But Mr. Trump has spent more time this year practicing for debates than he did in either 2016 or 2020, according to advisers who have worked with him. His first debate against Mr. Biden in 2020 was disastrous for Mr. Trump, who came off as overbearing,” the NYT reported.
But why Tulsi Gabbard?
Tulsi Gabbard is a woman and Trump for the second time is facing a woman as his election rival — after Hillary Clinton. Tulsi is a former House member and then most importantly, Tulsi has been on a debate stage with Kamala Harris.
Kamala and Trump will debate on September 10 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on ABC. This date was agreed on by both Biden and Trump as their second debate date after the first on June 27. Biden’s performance cost him the ticket and now Trump will have to debate Kamala Harris. Tulsi Gabbard is often misrepresented as Indian-origin. Tulsi has no Indian origin but she identifies as a Hindu. Her father was a Catholic and her mother a convert to Hinduism.
