A man was arrested in the United Kingdom on Saturday after the bodies of two men in two suitcases were found at a famous bridge in western England last week.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at Bristol Temple Meads railway station on Saturday and taken into custody. He will be taken to London for questioning, according to the police, according to the Guardian.
Andy Valentine, the deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan police, said: “This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.”
The police discovered the suitcase on Wednesday after they received a report about a suspicious man on the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, southwest England. “Detectives have arrested a man in connection with an investigation into the discovery of human remains on Clifton Suspension Bridge,” said Metropolitan Police.
On Friday police said the remains were of two adult men and that the main suspect had travelled from London with the bags, Guardian reported.
The police said that their investigation is still ongoing.
“We understand the concerns of local communities in both Bristol and London and officers will remain in the … areas over the coming days to reassure those affected by this tragic incident,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said.
The bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864, reopened on Thursday after being closed for more than 24 hours. It typically has 11,000 to 12,000 vehicle crossings a day.
