Two sub-inspectors of Thalssery police station have been transferred following the controversy surrounding the arrest of Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers involved in an attack on police personnel during the Manolikkavu temple festival in Illathu Thazhae.
SIs T.K Akhil and V.V Deepthi have been moved to different station. Akhil has been transferred to Kolavallur police station, while Deepthi has been shifted to Kannur Town station. In their place, P.V Prashobh from Kolavallur station and P.P. Shamil from Kannur Town station have been assigned to Thalassery police station.
Political pressure
The transfers are believed to have been made due to political pressure as both officers had taken action against CPI(M) workers in the Manolikkavu incident. A police team led by SI Deepthi had registered cases and arrested several CPI(M) workers, which party leader claimed was a unilateral move. In response, the officers were transferred as part of a general reshuffle that affected seven personnel in the district.
During the February 20, a police team intervened in a clash between CPI(M) and BJP workers at the temple. The situation escalated when a CPI(M) activist allegedly grabbed SI Akhil by the collar of his uniform, leading to further arrests.
The CPI(M) workers allegedly threatened the police warning that if they against the ruling party, there will not be a single officer left in Thalassery station.
Other transfers in the district include P.J Jimmy from New Mahe station to Mayyil station, Prashobh from Mayyil to New Mahe and Sajesh C. Jose from the Cyber station to Chakkarakkal station.
