Prince Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles III, has reportedly deteriorated to the point where they are no longer in communication. Despite a meeting in February following the king’s cancer diagnosis, the two have since ceased all contact, with the king allegedly not answering Harry’s calls or letters, reported People magazine.
Sources close to Harry claim that the 45-minute meeting in February was positive, but communication stopped afterward.A friend of the Duke of Sussex told People, “He gets ‘unavailable right now.’ His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the king’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
Harry is particularly concerned about the safety of his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He has asked King Charles for assistance with security, a source told People. “Harry is frightened and feels the only person who can do anything about it is his father.” Another insider added, “Harry is determined to protect his own family at all costs.”
Earlier this year, a London High Court ruling stripped the Sussexes of taxpayer-funded UK security protection. Harry plans to appeal the decision. His offer to pay for personal police protection in the UK was also rejected in court. Harry believes his father could intervene to help with the security issue. This situation has reportedly exacerbated the rift between them, resulting in “complete silence” from King Charles whenever Harry reaches out.
People magazine sources suggest that the palace is still troubled by the memory of what happened with Princess Diana, Prince Harry and Prince William’s late mother, after she left royal life. “Charles’ fear is a repeat of the past,” a source explained. “When his wife divorced the institution, she took the headlines, overshadowed his work and became a global superstar. Seeing his son leave with his wife was not part of the plan.”
A friend of the Sussexes commented on their departure from royal duties, saying, “The Sussexes didn’t feel they had a choice. The only option was to leave — for their sanity. I do think they thought if they got out of this bubble, there would be less focus on them.”
Buckingham Palace will not comment on security provisions, but a palace source told People, “The idea that Harry’s security is in Charles’ hands is wholly incorrect.”
