NEW DELHI: In a fiery response to the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), AAP leaders have decried what they describe as an “undeclared Emergency-like situation” in the country orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sandeep Pathak, AAP’s national general secretary (organisation), lambasted the BJP during a press conference, accusing them of attempting to eliminate opposition voices. Referring to Kejriwal’s arrest as “fraudulent,” Pathak expressed confidence in the judiciary while highlighting the perceived political vendetta behind the move.
Meanwhile, Dilip Pandey, AAP Chief Whip in the Delhi Assembly, condemned Kejriwal’s arrest as a grave political misstep by the BJP. He warned of significant repercussions in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, asserting that the people would respond to what they perceive as political arrogance on the BJP’s part.
Pathak and Pandey both criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, accusing them of resorting to authoritarian tactics to suppress dissent. They cited instances of AAP leaders being detained and allegedly put under house arrest during protests against Kejriwal’s arrest.
Kejriwal’s arrest stems from an investigation into a money laundering case linked to excise policy. Pandey contended that this action demonstrates the BJP’s desperation and panic ahead of elections.
Despite the arrest, AAP leaders remain resolute, vowing to continue their fight against what they perceive as BJP’s autocratic rule. Pandey emphasized that Kejriwal symbolizes an ideology of honesty, public service, and patriotism, and his supporters will mobilize against the BJP’s perceived arrogance.
As tensions escalate between AAP and the BJP, the political landscape in the country appears increasingly fraught with confrontation and uncertainty.
