An uneasy calm pervaded Tharalapally village in Hanamkonda district on Tuesday (March 25, 2025) following the reported death of Maoist leader Ankeshwaram Saraiah alias Sudhakar, a native of the village, in an exchange of fire with the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar forest area in the morning.

According to sources, Saraiah was among the three Maoists those killed in the “encounter” in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist stronghold of south Bastar region. The local police, however, are yet to confirm this.

Saraiah, a Dandakaranya special zonal committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist), carried a reward of ₹25 lakh on his head. He had joined the then People’s War Group (PWG) and gone underground in the late 1990s.

He had been active in the armed struggle in the forest region straddling the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border for the last two and a half decades, sources added.
