PUNE: A woman was removed from a private airline’s flight to New Delhi at Pune’s Lohegaon airport Saturday morning after she assaulted two fellow passengers and a CISF constable in a violent outburst. This happened during the boarding process around 7.45am.
According to airport authorities, the woman first attacked a brother and sister who were sitting in their allotted seats. When the crew intervened and summoned CISF personnel, constables Priyanka Reddy and Sonika Pal were dispatched to the aircraft to defuse the situation.
However, the woman responded aggressively, slapping and biting constable Reddy in a fit of anger. The situation worsened, leading CISF officers to restrain the woman and remove her and her husband from the flight.
She was handed her over to airport police and a case was registered. “We let her go after issuing a notice asking her to join our probe as and when summoned by the investigating officer,” said senior inspector Ajay Sankeshwari.
The woman is a homemaker and her husband is a software engineer in Pune. They were going to Delhi to attend a relative’s funeral.
A CISF officer said: “She seemed to be in a state of extreme distress due to a personal emergency. After her altercation with the co-passengers, the pilot refused to fly with her, prompting the airline to seek our help as she grew more violent.”
“The airline staff and CISF officers have given their statements to the authorities,” said Sankeshwari, adding that the brother and sister involved in the confrontation continued their journey to Delhi. Their statements will be recorded later as part of the investigation.
Despite being asked about her actions, the woman reportedly refused to provide an explanation. The airline has yet to reply to TOI’s emails for a response.
