LUCKNOW: Bringing a Budget of Rs 7.36 lakh crore, the largest so far for the state which also includes Rs 24,863.57 crore for new schemes, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said the theme for this year was ‘Lok Mangal ki Bhavna’ (spirit of public welfare) espoused by Lord Ram.
The Budget, aimed at overall development, was also a green one as UP became, probably, the first state to green-tag 17 departments.
For its focus on women empowerment, the CM also described it as a Pink Budget. Having more than doubled the state’s GDP since 2016-17, Yogi said that ‘Utsav, Udyog and Umeed’ (celebration, industry and hope) had become the face of New UP.
“Based on faith, antyodaya and strengthening the economy, the Budget this year has been the largest so far. It is a 6.7% increase over the Budget of 2023-24 and demonstrates the dedication of the double engine government to expand the economy. It is based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that UP should play its role as the growth engine of the country’s economy,” he said.
Calling the current year the ‘Amrit Kaal’ for UP which will celebrate the 75th year of its notification as a state in 2025, the CM said that this was an important year for the state where it had to achieve its goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.
Where the government’s first Budget in 2017-18 was dedicated to farmers, the one in 2018-19 was dedicated to infrastructure and industrial development. The focus of the 2019-20 Budget was on women empowerment and the following year, on youth. The theme of the 2021-22 Budget was Svavlambam se Sashaktikaran and the one a year later was Antyodaya se Atmanirbharta. The 2023-24 Budget was dedicated to Lord Ram and his concept of public welfare.
