Ponda: Vishal Mewalal Pal, 22, a native of Nadiyapare Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh drowned during the immersion of Lord Vishwakarma idol in Zuari river at Rassaim-Salcete on Wednesday.
His body was found floating in the river at Parampai-Madkain in Ponda taluka on Thursday evening.
Mardol police who fished out the body said there were no identification documents on him but he was in a boiler suit, which suggested he was an industrial worker.When police contacted Verna police, they learnt that Pal was reported missing since the day of immersion.
The police contacted Aditya Kumar, a native of the deceased’s village and a supervisor at a ship-building workshop at Rassaim who identified the deceased. Kumar said Pal was employed at his workshop and had drowned during immersion of Lord Vishwakarma on Wednesday evening. Both of them were staying at a rented premises at Cortalim. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Mardol police station and PSI Rashmi Bhaidkar is investigating the case.
