MEERUT/ SHAMLI: UP special task force’s (STF) Meerut unit nabbed a 42-year-old man with “ISI links” in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday evening, police said, report Sandeep Rai and Sachin Sharma. The arrested man, Mohd Tahseem from Shamli, was evading security agencies for a while ever since his family had returned from Pakistan after serving almost a year in prison there.
Additional SP at UP STF (Meerut field unit), Brijesh Singh, said on Thursday, “Tahseem’s arrest revealed crucial intelligence links between ISI agents and their Pakistan handlers. Both Tahseem and his brother Kaleem were in contact with one Iqbal Kana, a Shamli resident who has been in Pakistan for several years. He motivated them to engineer communal disturbance, high profile murders and train others to carry out terror attacks.”
ASP Singh further added, “Two mobile phones were recovered from Kaleem. One of them was of Tahseem’s through which sensitive information related to national security was sent to Dilshad alias Mirza, a Kairana resident who had moved to Pakistan.”
Kaleem along with parents had travelled to Pakistan to meet their relatives in July 2022. While returning, they were detained at Wagah by the Pakistan customs department as they purportedly found a pistol in his possession.
Police in Shamli said Tahseem was arrested thrice in the past for his involvement in fake currency cases. His last prison stint was till 2016. Following his release, he resumed his “nefarious activities”.
Tahseem is at present wanted by Delhi Police and also in the state of Punjab for “illegal arms supply”.
