NEW DELHI: Unemployment rate in urban areas in the 15 years and above category in the Oct-Dec quarter of 2023 slowed marginally to 6.5%, lower than the 6.6% in the July-Sept period as economic activity remained robust. Joblessness rate in the Oct-Dec quarter of 2022 was at 7.2%.
Data released by National Statistical Office on Monday showed the unemployment rate for females in the 15 years and above category in Oct-Dec remained at 8.6%, similar to the previous quarter but lower than the 9.6% recorded in the Oct-Dec quarter of 2022.For males in the 15+ years category, the rate eased to 5.8% in the Dec quarter, slower than the 6% in the July-Sept period and below the 6.5% in the Oct-Dec quarter of 2022.

Labour force participation rate, the percentage of persons in the labour force (working or seeking work) in the population, improved to 49.9% in the Oct-Dec quarter from 49.3% in the July-Sept period and above the 48.2% in the Oct-Dec period of 2022.
