NEW DELHI: Housing and urban affairs ministry has issued a fresh notice to disqualified MP Mahua Moitra for vacating her government bungalow that she occupies even after a month of her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
Directorate of estates (DoE) under the ministry has sought a reply from the former lawmaker for not vacating the bungalow and has asked her to appear before it on January 16 (Monday).
Sources said DoE had earlier issued a notice on January 8, exactly a month after she was expelled from the Lok Sabha, to vacate the official accommodation. They added that the allottees get three days to respond to the first notice. As per the rule, a former MP can keep the official accommodation for a maximum of 30 days from the date of their termination or end of tenure.
A source said DoE is following the procedure before proceeding with eviction.
Moitra had got a type-V bungalow from the “General Pool” accommodation which is managed by the DoE. After her expulsion on December 8, the Lok Sabha housing committee had asked the housing and urban affairs ministry to go ahead with the vacation request for Moitra’s official residence.
On January 4, Delhi HC had asked Moitra to approach the DoE with a request to allow her to continue to occupy the government accommodation allotted to her, which is done in rare circumstances.
