Varaiyaru Odai, a scenic picnic spot, lacks basic amenities and good approach road

Residents near Varaiyaru Odai, a picturesque stream at the foot of Pachamalai, have urged authorities to improve infrastructure and streamline the waterway to address safety and accessibility concerns.

Located 2 km from Ammampalayam village in Thuraiyur and with a scenic view, it has become a weekend picnic spot after the recent rain. “Though this is a less known picnic spot, scores of people visit it on every weekend to enjoy the falls. However, there are no basic amenities. We request authorities to desilt the stream and provide better roads,” said M. Karthik, a resident of Ammampalayam. 

The 2-km mud road leading to Varaiyaru Odai is unsafe and slippery during rain, making it difficult for two-wheelers to navigate. Residents and visitors have demanded that the road be converted into at least a metal road and clear the thorny bushes along the path.

Official sources from the Forest Department said they would look into the issue.
