NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of “corruption” over the issue of electoral bonds claiming that various loss-making firms paid hundreds of crores to the BJP through the political funding scheme.
The AAP leader presented a list of 33 companies which despite being at a loss, donated money to the BJP.
“Corruption has happened in the name of electoral bonds, tax exemption was given. Thanks to the Supreme Court, the complete data was placed before the public. The whole series of what I am revealing is that there are 33 companies that have incurred losses of Rs 1 lakh crore in seven years and have donated Rs 450 crore to the BJP,” Singh said while addressing a press conference in the national capital.
The AAP leader alleged that there are 17 companies that have either paid zero tax or gotten tax exemptions in the last seven years.
“There are 17 companies that have either paid zero tax or got tax exemptions. Six companies have donated Rs 600 crore to the BJP. A company has donated three times more than its profits. There is a company that has donated 93 times its profits. There are three companies that have donated Rs 28 crore and paid zero tax,” he said.
Sanjay Singh earlier on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is the most corrupt political party since the nation got independence, adding that its leaders should be investigated for committing an “electoral bond scam.”
“You cannot trust them on anything. BJP is most corrupt party since independence. They are openly involved in corruption. In the BJP tenure, a total of Rs 15 lakh crore of various businessmen has been written off. In their tenure, demonetisation scam, Hindenburg report which revealed another scam, electoral bond scam happened,” Sanjay Singh told ANI.
Singh alleged that BJP gave away contracts worth Rs 3.8 lakh crore to various companies who donated it through electoral bond scheme.
“BJP leaders should be investigated for electoral bonds scam. ED, CBI, IT should investigate it. BJP got donations of thousands of crores, and they gave away contracts worth Rs 3.8 lakh crore to those business companies. It is the BJP which has done the liquor policy scam, now even money trail is found,” he said.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission published the complete electoral bond data submitted by the State Bank of India on the orders of the Supreme Court.
The fresh data included alpha-numeric numbers that can help match the purchasers of the bonds with the political parties that encashed them.
The two sets of data–552 pages of details of redemption by political parties and 386 pages of details of donors–cover electoral bonds purchased and redeemed from April 2019 until January 2024.
The State Bank of India was the only bank authorised to sell and redeem the bonds, which were first issued in March 2018 and were being sold until being declared null and void by the top court last month.
