NEW DELHI: Veteran diplomat and former foreign secretary Muchkund Dubey, 90, died from heart-related complications at Delhi’s Fortis Hospital on Wednesday.
Dubey joined Jawaharlal Nehru University as a professor after retirement and held the position of Council for Social Development president.
Dubey is survived by his wife and two daughters. His last rites will be performed at Delhi’s Lodhi Road Crematorium on Thursday at 4pm.
Born in 1933 in Jharkhand’s Deoghar (then in undivided Bihar), Dubey studied economics at Patna, Oxford and New York universities.
He joined foreign services in 1957, and served as India’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, as permanent representative to UN in Geneva, and as Indian member on UNESCO executive board.
His research interest covered world economy, international trading and monetary systems, international security and disarmament, international development cooperation, and India’s social and economic development. tnn
