Following the release of IC814: The Kandahar Hijack, where Vijay Varma was seen portraying the real-life hero Captain Devi Sharan, the actor reflected on his evolving journey in the industry in a recent conversation with The Hindu. Vijay was seen tracing his journey ever since he stepped foot in the industry and appreciated its evolving nature as it got him several interesting roles like the ones he essayed in Gully Boy or the web-show Mirzapur or the film Darlings or Jaane Jaan.

Vijay Varma shared, “Commercial or not commercial, what I am doing now is the new Bollywood. You can call it Bollygood.” Vijay’s statement emphasizes on Bollywood being redefined as it pushes boundaries with an aim to bring fresh narratives to the screen. Meanwhile, his performance as Captain Sharan has definitely garnered him appreciation and praises and the actor maintained that it was his effort to ensure that the unsung hero’s efforts are finally acknowledged and celebrated.
Further elaborating on his portrayal of the brave captain in IC814: The Kandahar Hijack, he expressed how refreshing it was to step into a role that diverges from his previous complex characters. “Getting to play a fairly simple, noble, and heroic character was a welcome change for me after playing some extremely twisted men,” he chuckled. For Vijay, this role allowed him to explore a different side of his acting spectrum, embracing the straightforward heroism of Captain Sharan with a sense of ease and fulfillment, a contrast to the darker, more layered personalities he’s been known for.
Going forward, Vijay Varma will be seen in another unique role as he gears up another web-series called Matka King which revolves around gambling that leads a cotton trader towards the path of wealth and luxury. The web-series is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video and features a host of celebrities like Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover, among others.
