Prison superintendent Lokesh lodged a complaint, leading to Shivanna’s arrest and a body warrant issued against Madhusudhan.

MANDYA: Mandya district police arrested a villager on charges of attempting to smuggle contraband into the district prison.
According to Mandya district police, Shivanna from Halaguru was arrested on charges of attempting to smuggle drugs inside the prison. Shivanna’s son, Madhusudhan, was lodged in the prison, police said. Shivanna, acting on Madhusudhan’s instructions, brought clothes for him to the prison.
On the way, Madhusudhan instructed Shivanna to collect a bag from a friend. Shivanna, unaware of its contents, handed over the bag during his visit to the prison.
Upon inspection by the prison staff, marijuana was allegedly discovered concealed in the bag. Shivanna was reportedly shocked upon learning about the contraband and claimed no knowledge of its presence, police stated.
Investigations revealed that the marijuana was placed in the bag by Madhusudhan’s friend without Shivanna’s awareness, police stated.
The district prison superintendent, Lokesh, lodged a complaint following the discovery.
Shivanna was arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police said. A body warrant was issued against Madhusudhan, police said.
