He held the most powerful position any Indian could have, for 10 years. But Dr Manmohan Singh’s most long lasting legacy would be the way he scripted the liberalisation of the Indian economy in the early 1990s.
Liberalisation didn’t just bring about change in the economy – it also significantly changed how Indians saw themselves in relation to the world at large.
Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26th, 2024, aged 92, was an economist whose expertise saw his career expand as a bureaucrat and politician. We look back at Dr Manmohan Singh’s glittering career.
