NEW DELHI: After 10 years, the women and child development ministry will present its tableau at the Republic Day parade, showcasing the govt’s vision of ‘women-led development’.
As per process, an expert committee set up by the defence ministry goes through proposals and selects tableaux of states and ministries that finally get to participate in the parade.

The defence ministry issues guidelines based on which states and ministries are supposed to submit their tableau plan for approval of the committee. This time the overall theme for tableaux presentation is “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas”.
Interestingly, the participation of the WCD ministry’s tableau comes in the backdrop of it being 10 years since the launch of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme and 50 years since the govt started anganwadi services — earlier known as the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), which was launched in 1975.
The services among other things encompasses a countrywide network of lakhs of anganwadis to reach children in the 0-6 years age group from weaker sections with early childhood care and nutrition.
In 2015, the WCD ministry tableau’s theme was “Bhavishya Hamara Hai”, dedicated to ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. The scheme, launched by PM Narendra Modi in Panipat in Haryana on Jan 22 of that year during his first term in office, focuses on addressing declining child sex ratio (CSR) and issues related of women empowerment.
The WCD ministry tableau will showcase the role of Indian women in steering the “Viksit Bharat” vision and various schemes and measures taken by the govt, sources in the ministry said. The ministry also sees the R-Day parade as a platform to spread the message of “women-led development”, sources said.
