NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Monday said his govt had provided permanent govt jobs to nearly 10 lakh youth in the last one-and-a-half years alone, highlighting the Centre’s priority to maximise the potential of India’s youth.
Speaking at a ‘Rozgar Mela‘ where he distributed over 71,000 appointment letters to new govt employees via videoconferencing, the PM said, “Over the past decade, a comprehensive campaign to provide govt jobs has been underway across various ministries, departments and institutions. Even today, more than 71,000 young individuals have been handed appointment letters. In the last one-and-a-half years alone, our govt has provided permanent govt jobs to nearly 10 lakh youth, a record in itself.” Modi also acknowledged the birth anniversary of former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, noting that he was privileged that his govt had honoured him with Bharat Ratna.
“We also celebrate this day as Farmers’ Day, paying tribute to farmers who provide us with food. Chaudhary sahib believed that India’s progress depends on the progress of rural India. Our govt’s policies have created new employment and self-employment opportunities in rural areas, especially for youth in agriculture,” he said. The PM emphasised the unique approach of his administration towards employment and said, “Such a mission-driven approach to offering permanent employment within the govt has never been witnessed under any previous administration. Moreover, these opportunities are being provided with absolute honesty and transparency. I take pride in the fact that young individuals, nurtured in this transparent tradition, are serving the nation with utmost dedication and integrity.”
Modi said he had just returned from Kuwait where he engaged with Indian youth and professionals. “Today marks a new beginning for thousands of youth in the country. Your years of dreams have come true, years of hard work have paid off. This outgoing year of 2024 is bringing new happiness to you. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you and your families,” he said.
The PM underscored the importance of youth in national development and said, “India is committed to becoming a developed nation by 2047 as the country’s policies and decisions focus on empowering its talented youth.”
He highlighted initiatives like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Startup India, Stand-Up India and Digital India, which have placed youth at the forefront of national progress.
