Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mahesh Kumar Khichi won Delhi mayoral polls as voting for the long-delayed election concluded on Thursday.

Soon after being elected as the Delhi Mayor, Khichi said, “The challenge is to work in the service of the people of Delhi like Arvind Kejriwal. My priority will be to work for the cleanliness of the city.”

Khichi, the AAP councillor from Karol Bagh’s Dev Nagar ward, secured a win against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kishan Lal of Shakurpur ward.

Who is Mahesh Kumar Khichi?

Mahesh Kumar Khichi, the AAP councillor from Karol Bagh’s Dev Nagar ward, succeeded AAP leader Shelly Oberoi who assumed the Mayor’s office in 2023. Dev Nagar falls in Karol Bagh Assembly constituency.

Khichi has done his B.Com from Motilal Nehru College of Delhi University.

Khichi Won By 3 Votes

Khichi won the mayor’s election against BJP’s Kishanlal by 3 votes. Of the total 265 votes, two were declared “invalid”. The AAP candidate secured 133 votes, only three more than the BJP nominee.

In addition to this, cross-voting was also reported by the AAP councillors as 10 members from Kejriwal’s party voted for the BJP candidate.
