NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday referred to Rahul Gandhi as Ravan as he avoided a direct reply to the Congress leader’s attacks on him and his government.
“Why are you talking about Ravan today? At least talk about Ram today. We have the opportunity to talk about Ram after 500 years. We should only talk about him and not about Ravan,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said when he was questioned about the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi against him.
Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi slammed authorities after he was stopped from visiting the Sri Sri Sankar Dev Satra temple in Assam’s Nagaon.”Will PM Modi now decide who will visit a temple and when,” Rahul said as he briefly sat on a protest with his supporters.
“I want to go to the temple, what is wrong with this? Earlier we were invited but now the administration is saying that we cannot go. “Aaj sirf ek vyakti mandir mein ja sakta hain…”(Perhaps today only one person can go to the temple),” the Congress leader said in an apparent dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rahul, who was in Assam with his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” has been unsparing in his attacks on Himanta Biswa Sarma calling him the most corrupt CM in the country. In his public meetings in Assam, Rahul also accused the chief minister of taking instructions from Delhi in a bid to try and please Prime Minister Modi.
On Sunday, Rahul had alleged that Assam’s BJP-led government had been threatening people against joining the “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” and also refusing permissions for programmes along the route.
