Samsung has announced that it will install over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the boats that will take athletes through the Seine River during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 – scheduled to take place next month – to livestream the event. There will be a total of 85 athlete vessels carrying 10,500 athletes at the ceremony.
High-quality footage captured by these phones will be shared via a private 5G network provided by Orange, France’s official mobile network provider for the Games that will witness the first-ever outside stadium Opening Ceremony.Orange will establish over a dozen 5G antennas along the Seine, creating France’s first-ever standalone 5G network for a seamless viewing experience.
Departing from the Austerlitz bridge, the parade will follow a six-kilometre route through the centre of Paris, passing some of the official Olympic Games venues before the ceremony’s grand finale at the Trocadéro.
Samsung, a partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), aims to leverage its advanced mobile technology and 5G connectivity to provide a closer look at the event.

Similar technology for Sailing competitions

Samsung will deploy the same technology for sailing competitions in Marseille. Galaxy S24 Ultra phones installed on competition boats will allow fans to virtually race alongside Olympians.
“This partnership with Samsung will provide a truly unique perspective of Paris 2024, transforming how fans experience the Games,” said Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of OBS. “Millions of fans will be able to virtually participate in the Opening Ceremony and sailing competitions alongside their favourite athletes.”
Samsung will reveal more details in the coming weeks on how they will further leverage technology to connect fans and athletes during the Paris 2024 Olympics.
