Luka Dončić will not be playing for the Dallas Mavericks in their upcoming home game against the LA Clippers on December 21, 2024. This is going to be his second consecutive absence due to a left heel contusion. Despite taking part in Friday’s practice session and getting some shots up, Luka has not yet fully recovered from the injury.
Luka Dončić has not been one of the most dominant players in the NBA this season. He was also sidelined during the Dallas Mavericks’ disappointing 118-95 loss to the Clippers on December 19. His absence was seen as a key factor in Dallas’ inability to keep up with the Clippers, who took advantage of the opportunity to secure an easy victory. As reported by Grant Afseth, Dončić and fellow superstar Kyrie Irving (who also missed the previous game) were both “getting shots up today at practice,” although Dončić is still unable to suit up for the team.
The 25-year-old Slovenian has had an impressive season despite his injury struggles, which have kept him out of seven games so far. In the Mavericks’ dominant 143-133 win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, December 17, 2024, Luka Dončić put up one of his finest performances of the year, recording 45 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists, three steals, and two blocks. He managed to shoot 16 of 23 from the field, including 6 of 11 from three-point range.

Despite missing several games, the Mavericks have remained competitive, currently sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 17-10 record. This strong team performance has been possible due to the presence of other key players like Kyrie Irving, who is expected to return to the lineup after missing the Clippers game due to right shoulder soreness. Irving participated in Friday’s practice and is likely to take on a leading role for the Mavericks in Saturday’s rematch against the Clippers.
