BHOPAL: Police in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, claim to have solved the mystery behind a nine-month-old murder case with the arrest of three persons. The case involves the death of Brijlal Ahirwar, whose half-burnt body was discovered on the hills of Galgal Toria in December 2023.
The arrested persons include Brijlal’s wife, Kavita Ahirwar, her lover, Monu Shah, and Shah’s friend, Umesh Ahirwar.According to Additional SP Lokesh Sinha, the suspects have confessed to the crime during interrogation.
On December 10, 2023, a half-burnt body was found near the Galgal Toria temple, reported by a local shepherd. The following day, Garibdas Ahirwar reported his son, Brijlal, missing at Shahpur police station.
Brijlal, who worked as a labourer in Delhi and would visit home every few months, had left on December 8 without informing anyone and had not returned. DNA testing confirmed that the body was Brijlal’s after samples from his father matched.
The investigation revealed that Brijlal had frequent disputes with his wife, Kavita, over his drinking habit. Police discovered that Kavita and Monu Shah, a village resident, were involved in an illicit affair.
This affair led to the murder plot. On the night of December 8, Monu provided sleeping pills to Kavita, who mixed them with Brijlal’s alcohol. Once Brijlal fell unconscious, Monu and Kavita, assisted by Umesh, strangled him to death.
The accused then wrapped Brijlal’s body in a quilt and transported it to Galgal Toria on a bike. There, they set the body on fire using petrol to destroy evidence. They returned home, resuming their normal lives without apparent concern.
Monu Shah even got married a few months after the murder, displaying a lack of fear of arrest. However, the ongoing investigation led to the identification of Brijlal and the arrest of the suspects.
