NEW DELHI: Congress’s promise of creating 30 lakh new jobs in the central govt is part of an elaborate plan the party has worked out for women’s empowerment.
The ‘Yuva Nyay’ of 2024 manifesto pledges that if voted to power, Congress govt will create 30 lakh new jobs besides giving “assured first job” to youth below 25 years through year-long apprenticeship in private and public companies.
The party has identified 10 lakh vacancies in various central govt departments, and promised to fill them according to a calendar that will be worked out. The rest of the 20 lakh new jobs would be exclusively for women at various levels.
Sources said govt will create 14 lakh additional posts of ‘anganwadi’ workers, and each village with a population above 2,500 persons will be allocated an additional ASHA worker, which will result in four lakh new posts.
Similary, more midday meal workers will be deputed, taking the total number to 20 lakh.
As per the calculations, the new posts will cost the Centre an additional monthly expense of Rs 1,200 crore.
Besides, every gram panchayat will create positions of ‘Adhikar Maitri’, which will be manned by women who would provide para legal services to women about their legal rights. There will be a total of 2.5 lakh such posts across gram panchayats, and they will receive honorarium from panchayats.
