Silchar: In a significant operation late on Saturday night, Cachar police seized a massive haul of 60,000 Yaba tablets and suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 20 crore. A suspected drug peddler, Sahil Ahmed Laskar of Nasirgram in Sonai Circle, was apprehended during the operation conducted along the Sildubi-Silcoorie road.
Superintendent of Police (Cachar) Numal Mahatta said a police team, led by inspector general of police (special task force) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, acting on intelligence inputs regarding drug trafficking to areas outside Assam, intercepted Laskar at around 1 am.
During the search, police recovered 10 soap cases containing suspected heroin, along with the 60,000 Yaba tablets, weighing a total of 6.848 kg. Laskar’s motorcycle was also seized.
The seized drugs and tablets, estimated to have a black market value of approximately Rs 20 crore, were confiscated in the presence of independent witnesses.
“Further legal proceedings are underway,” stated SP Mahatta.
