NEW DELHI: Zeeshan Siddique, son of Baba Siddique and sitting Congress MLA from Bandra (East), has officially joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections.

He made the switch on Friday morning. The move comes in the wake of his father and former minister Baba Siddique’s murder, who was shot outside Zeeshan’s office in Bandra on October 12.

“This is an emotional day for me and my family.I am grateful to Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, and Sunil Tatkare for their trust during these challenging times. I have received the nomination for Bandra (East) and am confident that with the love and support of the community, I will secure victory once again,” news agency ANI quoted Zeeshan as saying.
Zeeshan was previously suspended from Congress due to cross-voting in the recent legislative council elections.
The elections for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly are scheduled for November 20, with the vote count set for November 23.
