With the number of street vendors availing subsidised loans under the PM SVANidhi scheme crossing 58 lakh and almost 44% of them being women, the Centre on Thursday urged all states to constitute committees for addressing grievances of this sector. So far only 13 states have set up these committees.
Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri, at a conference, said no state should delay in setting up these committees. Under this scheme, street vendors get Rs 10,000 loan at subsidised interest rate of 7% and can pay the amount back in monthly instalments in one year. They also get monthly cash back incentives on digital transactions.
