THRISSUR: Addressing a huge gathering of women at Thrissur’s Thekkinkadu Maidan on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about his and his government’s achievements in empowering women and insisted that even in Kerala only a BJP-led NDA govt could fulfil their aspirations going forward. In his 19-minute speech, the PM used the phrase “Modiyude guarantee (Modi’s guarantee)” 18 times.
Repeatedly prefacing his remarks in Malayalam with “ente ammamarum, sohidarimarum (my dear mothers and sisters)”, Modi called on Kerala’s women to participate in large numbers to prove their power.Pointing out that Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has now become law, the PM claimed that Congress and the Left parties had delayed the women’s reservation bill.
Addressing around 40,000 women at the Stree Shakti Modikku Oppam Mahila Sammelan (women power with Modi) organised by BJP’s Kerala women’s wing, the PM listed his government’s initiatives regarding women empowerment, ranging from passing the women’s reservation bill and abrogation of triple talaq to implementing various national schemes like the Rs 10cr Ujwala gas scheme, the Rs 11cr free pipe connections scheme, the Rs 12cr toilet scheme and a scheme for 60 lakh women to have bank accounts.
At the rally, PM Modi struck all the right notes, reassuring the Christian community of the central government’s commitment to the community’s welfare and safety, touching on controversies related to the sentimental Sabarimala and Thrissur Pooram issues and targeting the LDF government’s alleged lack of accountability in its use of central funds.
Modi, who received a rapturous welcome at Thekkinkadu, earlier conducted a brief road show, covering about 1.5 km from the General Hospital Jn to Naikkanal area.
