An employee in the health section in the Jewargi Town Municipal Council was assaulted by a Communist leader Mahesh Rathod during a protest there on Thursday evening.
CPI(M) activists along with terminated daily wage pourakarmikas of the Town Municipal Council are on an indefinite protest for the last one week demanding their reinstatement.
On Thursday, Dr. Rathod expressed anguish accusing officials of ignoring their agitation and barged into the office premises and attacked a health section official Rajashekar Hiremath.
Later, the activist dragged the officer outside the office building and assaulted him, the employees said.
A portion of the episode has been captured by the CCTV camera installed in the office building.
The Jewargi municipal employees then demanded the immediate arrest of Dr. Rathod.
