Cyclone Fengal in Tamil Nadu LIVE: Storm to cross the coast close to Puducherry today

With the slow-moving system picking up pace, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai (RMC) announced that cyclone Fengal will cross close to Puducherry by Saturday (November 30, 2024) afternoon.

The RMC has maintained a red weather alert indicating isolated extremely heavy rainfall in seven coastal districts on Saturday (November 30, 2024). Intense rainfall will cover various other districts too.

During the northeast monsoon, the normal life of a weather system that develops into a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal is up to 4.4 days. However, cyclonic storm Fengal persisted for a longer time before intensifying

As a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts will remain closed. Information technology companies are requested to allow their employees to work from home on Saturday (November 30, 2024). Public transport services on East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) will be temporarily suspended on Saturday afternoon, an official release said.
