BHUBANESHWAR: Former BJD MP Prabhas Kumar Singh joined BJP on Monday at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh.
Singh, former Bargarh MP, praised prime minister Narendra Modi and criticized BJD while addressing the press conference. He said there is no dignity and self-respect in BJD. “There is no dynastic politics in BJP.Here a politician can work freely and become a CM and PM,” he added.
Similarly, former commissioner of Odisha State Commission for Women, Jyoti Panigrahi, who was also a member of BJD’s manifesto committee, joined BJP here in the presence of party brass. Along with her, many intellectuals and youths joined the saffron party.
“There is no democracy in BJD. State govt is not giving importance to women, farmers, children, youths and students. Modi’s guarantee is needed for the growth of Odisha,” said Panigrahi.
Addressing a press conference here, BJD spokesperson Swayam Prakash Mohapatra said the politicians, who were kicked out from BJD, are the poster boys of BJP. “Several criminal cases are pending against Prasanta Kumar Jagadev. Pradeep Panigrahy has cheated people of his own constituency. But these two have become important party members in BJP,” he added.
Mohapatra alleged that jail returnee and irrelevant politicians involved in criminal activities have become a support system of BJP. “Even the two politicians are threatening govt officers to work in favour of BJP. It shows the BJP’s intention,” he added.
Several politicians from both the parties switched sides during the last two months. BJD also witnessed the joining of several important politicians from BJP and Congress. On Monday, Gitanjali Pidika, vice-chairperson of Bandhugaon block in Koraput district, joined BJD with her supporters. She resigned from Congress and joined the ruling party.
