MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Minister Abdul Sattar courted a major controversy once again after he ordered a lathi charge on crowds at an event organised for his birthday in his constituency, Sillod in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Folk dancer Gautami Patil performed at his birthday after which Sattar ordered the police to lathicharge the crowds and beat so badly that their back bones break.A video of Sattar giving verbal orders to the police to lathi charge the crowds went viral on social media. The Congress demanded Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take action against Sattar, who is the state’s Minority Development minister. Sattar is also the Guardian Minister of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to locals, shortly after the program began, some youths sitting in front started creating a ruckus and heckling, and the program had to be stopped. As the program stopped, Abdul Sattar directly reached the stage with the microphone. He instructed the police to lathicharge the youth and beat them till their back bones break. After that, the police resorted to lathi charge.
“Listen to me policemen, lathicharge the people sitting behind. Beat them so badly that their back bones should break. Beat Has your father also ever seen such a programme? You all are demons, you don’t know how to behave like humans,” Sattar is seen and heard in the video with a mike in his hand on the stage.
“Gautami Patil’s event was organized on the occasion of Shinde faction minister Abdul Sattar’s birthday. When Gautami Patil’s program was going on at Sillod, some youths created a ruckus, after which an enraged Abdul Sattar ordered the police to lathi-charge. After the order of Abdul Sattar, the police resorted to lathi charge. Shockingly, Sattar ordered police to beat the people who disturb the program like dogs, break their backs. Sattar said there is a provision of 1000 policemen, what is the problem to bear 50,000 people. Is he a minister or a gangster? Will the Chief Minister take action?” Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe-Patil said in a post on X, sharing the viral video.
Sattar has courted several controversies in the past due to his statements.
