Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday recommended in the Lok Sabha that MPs read US foreign policy expert Bruce Riedel’s book JFK’s Forgotten Crisis.
He said this while taking a dig at former PM Jawaharlal Nehru as he countered the opposition’s attacks on the BJP-led government’s handling of the China border row. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav were among those who raised the issue.

How Nehru used to conduct foreign policy. The details about Nehru, and what he used his position for, is the same mindset that @RahulGandhi has inherited as a family.
No wonder Rahul Gandhi speaks the same language as third grade trolls, including on foreign policy. pic.twitter.com/X2DUzBzas5

“If someone is really interested in foreign policy… they should read ‘JFK’s Forgotten Crisis’,” PM Modi said. “This book was written by a foreign policy scholar (and) in it there is a mention of India’s first PM, who also held the foreign affairs portfolio. It had his conversation with JFK when the country was dealing with a crisis situation… the book details what games were played in the name of foreign policy…”
The Prime Minister’s response came a day after Rahul Gandhi questioned the government over reports that India had surrendered over 4,000 sq km of its territory to China.
“The PM denied it but the Army contradicted him… China is sitting on 4,000 sq km of our territory…” Rahul Gandhi had said in the Lok Sabha, leading to protests from the BJP.
