BHOPAL/LUCKNOW/PATNA: While BJP and other parties have rolled out their big guns ahead of polls in the first phase on April 19 in six seats of MP and some crucial constituencies in UP and Bihar, Congress‘s star campaigners, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have been missing from action in these regions until now. Campaigning for the first phase ends Wednesday.
The BJP brass has been busy in MP, where it won 28 of 29 seats in 2019.PM Modi has made three visits so far. Amit Shah and JP Nadda have visited the state, as did Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, and Anurag Thakur. Shah will lead a road show in Chhindwara and address a rally on Tuesday.
In contrast, Congress stalwarts are missing. MP Rahul Gandhi addressed two public meetings in Mandla and Shahdol on April 9. No one else from Congress’s long list of star campaigners has gone to canvass for party candidates. Not even in Chhindwara, where the party faces its toughest challenge since 1952. Rahul and his sister Priyanka haven’t toured Chhindwara, where former CM Kamal Nath is left fighting a lonely battle in defence of his home turf.
In UP, Congress insiders said Priyanka would be holding a road show Wednesday for the party’s Saharanpur candidate Imran Masood.
