NEW DELHI: President Dropadi Murmu on Tuesday accepted the resignation of former Delhi social welfare minister Raaj Kumar Anand, who stepped down from his position in April. Anand, who represented the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), unsuccessfully ran for the Lok Sabha from the New Delhi seat on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket.
Anand received a notice from the Assembly on May 31 under anti-defection laws, requiring him to respond by June 10.
Elected from Patel Nagar in West Delhi in 2020, Anand left AAP citing corruption and the neglect of Dalit leaders within the party. He joined the Delhi Cabinet in 2022.

Personal life
Anand was born on 14 September 1966. During his childhood, he used to work in a lock factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.
He completed his postgraduate studies in political science at Bundelkhand University (Jhansi) in 1989.
He completed his M A through giving tuition to students in Aligarh.
Political career
Anand was elected as an MLA in 2020 Delhi assembly polls, he emerged victorious from Patel Nagar.
He joined the Delhi cabinet on 3rd November 2022, following the resignation of Seemapuri MLA Rajendra Pal Gautam.
He was given charge of seven portfolios including social welfare, labour, employment, SC/ST welfare and cooperatives.
Charges against the MLA
Anand was accused of making hawala payments to China and evading customs duty amounting to about Rs 7 crore on various imports.
He also faced a 23-hour raid by ED in November 2023.
