The Indian Railways unveiled two Amrit Bharat trains connecting Darbhanga – Ayodhya Dham Jn. – Anand Vihar Terminal and Malda Town – Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru), accompanied by the launch of six New Vande Bharat Trains. The virtual inauguration by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, marked the historic commencement of the Malda Town – Sir M.Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru) Amrit Bharat Express train from Ayodhya on December 30, 2023.
This initiative promises a new era of connectivity and convenience for the residents of Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Barddhaman, Hooghly, and Midnapore in West Bengal. The Malda Town – Bengaluru route opens up opportunities for medical treatments, education in prestigious institutions, and employment in the thriving IT sector. The Amrit Bharat Express, a symbol of Make in India innovation, introduces advancements in speed, efficiency, comfort, and affordability.
Key features of the Amrit Bharat Express include the utilization of two WAP-5 Locomotives, innovative exterior color schemes, jerk-free semi-permanent couplers, aerodynamically designed WAP5 Locomotives, and various passenger-centric amenities such as foldable snack tables, mobile chargers, and improved luggage racks. With a speed potential of 130 Kmph and a seating capacity of 1834 passengers, the train sets a new standard for modern travel.
The inaugural run was graced by local dignitaries, including Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury, MP, Khagen Murmu, MP, and Smt. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, Hon’ble MLA at Malda Town Station. Vikash Chaube, Divisional Railway Manager/ Malda, and other officials played a crucial role in ensuring the seamless launch. Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia, MP, added vitality to the journey from Burdwan station, accompanied by Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Howrah.
The train received a warm welcome from locals, especially students, and youth during its inaugural run from Malda to Bengaluru. Various stations in the Eastern Railway zone, including New Farakka, Rampurhat, Bolpur Shantiniketan, Burdwan, and Dankuni, witnessed celebrations. Cultural programme at Bolpur Shantiniketan, Burdwan, and Dankuni stations added a festive touch to the journey.
Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and passengers for their support, emphasizing that such initiatives mark a significant step towards a more connected and prosperous India. The Amrit Bharat Express stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing the lives of its citizens through progress and accessibility.
